Clif Bars Seasonal Flavors

Clif Bars are back with a couple of new additions to their seasonal flavors.  First, Pumpkin Pie, just in time for Halloween and Thanksgiving, perfect for the after dinner hike.  And next, Pecan Pie bars.  Yum.  I love pecans, so this is the bar for me, but I'll have to fight my son for it.  He's a huge fan of Clif Bars and they have seen us through more than a few potential disasters.  You know, when you're out and about and your child says, "Mom, I'm starving."  If you don't happen to have something on hand, things can go south pretty fast.

Clif Bars are perfect to have in your bag.  These flavors are great for holiday hikes, road trips, the plane, and to keep in your purse for emergencies.  I think they'd also be fabulous in Christmas stockings for outdoorsy types.  They're hearty, 70% organic, and gmo free.  Find them HERE.

New for Summer: Sierra Trail Mix CLIF BAR

Need some easy access energy for your summer hikes and travels?  Clif Bar has come out with a new flavor, Sierra Trail Mix.  It's 70% organic, gmo free and contains sustainably sourced cocoa from farms certified by the Rainforest Alliance.  I'd like to see that USDA Certified Organic seal on Clif Bars as well, it looks like they might be moving in that direction.  Seirra Trail Mix, as the name implies, contains trail mix ingredients like raisins, peanuts and chocolate.  It has a little bit of salty-sweet going on and is super kid friendly.  My son goes bananas for Clif Bars of any kind, and boy do they come in handy when you are caught out too long without a snack.  Pulling one of these out of my bag when things start to go cranky can turn the whole day around.  Find them HERE.

JUSTIN'S NUT BUTTER: Chocolate Hazelnut

Every year around Valentine's Day, I talk about chocolate.  And it's often heart shaped or something that comes in pink or red packaging.  This year, it's not.  It's chocolate, and it's wonderful, but it's not in a colorful wrapper.  It's Justin's Nut Butter, in Hazelnut (which is a little bit heart shaped now that I think of it) and it's so good that's what I'm recommending this year for a Valentine's Day treat.

It comes in a jar, like other nut butters, but what I really love is that it also comes in packets.  And these packets help you to not knock off a half a jar in one sitting, and they go everywhere with you.  In the gym bag, in your backpack, in your suitcase, and even on the plane (they're under 3.4 oz and you have to count them as part of your liquid allotment, but it works great for in-flight snacking).

It's a little bit too delicious, be warned.  That's why the packets are such a great idea, you can keep better track of how much you eat, and they are just the right amount to calm a hungry stomach, or stabilize blood sugar when you lose track of time and you need a pick me up away from your healthy kitchen.

The Hazelnut Butter is wonderful, and I thought that one would be my favorite, but I think the Almond Butter is just as good.  They both have a grainy salty sweet thing going on that is irresistible and crazy good.  The only thing that would make this better is a full on organic certification (though they do use some organic ingredients).

This year for Valentine's Day, here's something different to try, either for gifts (would be perfect to slip inside a Valentine) or treat yourself.  If you want to dress up the label, take a red sharpie and draw a heart around the hazelnut, why not?  Find it on HERE  on Amazon, or in your local stores like REI and your co-op.

Justin's Nut Butter: Wickedly Addictive

Warning:  Justin's Nut Butter is ADDICTIVE.  I got my hands on the chocolate almond yesterday and have eaten half way through the jar since then.  It's pretty much all I have eaten since opening the jar.  Holy Smokes it's good!  Way way too good!  I had a spoonful, then another, then another.  Then I had to put it in the freezer.  Do you think that stopped me?  NOooooo.  I had to get it out of the house, now Justin's Nut Butter is in my car!

I love the ever so slightly grainy texture and the perfect blend of sweetness--but not too sweet--and a tiny bit of salty.  It's obvious I cannot be trusted with this stuff, so good thing they come in individual reasonably portioned packets.  How fabulous for travel!

My son went as bananas as I did for it and with almond butter and organic ingredients, I can feel good about him eating this.  And by the way, this stuff is much healthier and just as tasty as that other famous nut butter ending in ...ella.  I do wish Justin's would go the full distance and get these butters certified organic.  Raw would be even better.  Their nut butter cups are certified, so maybe it's something they are working on. At any rate, I would strongly recommend this nut butter with a caveat that you may not be able to stop once you start.  Find them HERE.
