Things to Make Your Holiday Guest Comfortable

Expecting company for the holidays?  If you live in a small space, it can be tricky.  You want to give your guests as much of their own space as possible, and a comfortable bed.   Even if you don't have a dedicated guest room, you can still make visitors feel comfortable and extra special.

The Serta Raised Air Bed pops up in just a couple of minutes (deflates quickly too), and has a never-flat feature.  The height, at 18 inches, is really nice for guests who might have a harder time getting up and down from a camp pad set up, and it really makes into a bed that resembles a regular twin bed.  When you're done, it packs into a carry bag and goes right in the closet until the next visit.

An amenities kit like the Hugo Naturals Travel Kit, which uses non-synthetic fragrance and eco friendly plant based ingredients is a great welcome gift.  I love the orange-vanilla, which is comforting and soothing, and something like this might help to keep guests from using their synthetic products.  I personally have a no synthetic fragrance rule and make no bones about it because I get terrible migraines from perfumes.  Essential oils are wonderful though, and I think a little gift like this makes a fun introduction to healthy body products, and a treat for those already on board.

If you want to be really generous (and keep shoes out of the house), some cozy slippers or slipper socks from Acorn would be fantastic.  I love the Chinchilla slides that are my go-to slipper right now.  Your feet feel like heaven in these things; they are extremely luxurious.  If you get them from a place like Zappos, and you order  the wrong size, they can have a new pair to you the next day.  Any slippers would be nice, but I'm partial to these.

Additionally, I'd be aware of dietary restrictions (are they gluten free?  Vegetarian? Nut allergic?) and have a few things on hand.  Do they like coffee in the morning?  Tea?  If they're sleeping in a bright room, an eye mask would be nice (I like this one), and maybe some ear plugs.  Some nice organic chocolates or cookies on the night stand, a carafe with water, a clutter free space for them to put their stuff and charge electronics are a few thoughtful touches to make someone feel a warm welcome.

Gear up for Cozy: Acorn Slippers

As Autumn puts on it's orange and red fireworks, I start wanting chai, and slippers.  It's time to gear up for cozy.  Acorn has a new bootie out, the Moxie, and it's super warm and cute.  Since I started wearing slippers, and not just socks, I don't get that cold-to-the-bone chill I used to.  You know that level of cold where the only cure is a hot shower?  You can help avoid that by keeping your feet warm.

Simple, I know, but I've spent many a winter in socks.  Sixteen dollar wool socks broke that habit--I wanted to preserve them--now I can't go without slippers.  The Moxies have a sole, so if you need to run to the mailbox or grab the paper, you can, and it comes up over the heel to protect the bootie.  They can be worn folded down, or up (I like them up).  These would be awesome for apres ski or snow play, they have a rustic, log cabin toasty appeal to them.  Acorn is having a contest right now to win these HERE

A great vegan alternative to the Moxie is the Chinchilla Mule.  These are so cute!  Perfect for slipping on and off, the pretty gray faux fur keeps your feet toasty.  I love the heather gray wool uppers, and they also have a sole which makes them last a long time, give your feet support while the memory foam makes them ultra comfortable and gives your feet a welcome relief.  They come in several colors and would make a wonderful holiday gift.  I wear a size 8.5 and need a 9, or large in Acorns.  Find them HERE

Acorn C2G Lite Slide Sandals

My favorite slipper company, Acorn, has just come out with some new sandals perfect for this summer.  How fabulous, it's a little like being able to wear comfy slippers everywhere.  Check out these C2G Lite Slide Sandals.   This neutral Fawn color will go great with summery white clothing since they are almost like a nude against your skin--really pretty and low profile.

There's lots of venting to keep your feet cool and the top strap has velcro for adjusting.  I find they run a bit wide and short, but still fit fine.  I'm a true 8.5 and need a 9 in these.  They're super comfortable, light weight, and would be great for summer travel, being easy to slip off going through security lines at the airport.  They're a nice alternative to flip flops and just as easy to kick off in a hurry to jump in the pool or walk barefoot on the beach.  Find them HERE.

Winter Must Have: Acorn Slippers

Slipper weather is here again my friends, time for a new pair?  I love my Acorn slippers so much I wear them to tatters.  I learned that in order to lower my thermostat, I had to keep my feet warm and toasty.  You lose so much heat through your head and feet and you can handle a much cooler indoor environment if you can just keep something on one or both--especially your feet because walking around on a cold floor is not good.  I know I save a fortune on my heating bill just by wearing slippers, not to mention the savings on socks.  As soon as those leaves start dropping off the trees, my extra-warm slippers come out.

If it's time for you to upgrade (or if you need an awesome holiday gift), check out these Chinchilla Collar Slippers.  They are like furry little clouds for your feet--so cozy and comforting!  A pair of these, a cup of hot tea and a good book and you are set for heaven.   They feel awesome but they also look really good, they're quite elegant, so you still get your fur (faux) and warmth, but they look very feminine and would look great with that sort of sleepwear.  Think cashmere robe (one can dream...).

I also like Acorn's mules.  These are a must have standard for three seasons and are great by the door for when you slip your shoes off and slide these right on effortlessly.  Once you get used to wearing acorn slippers, you may not be able to live without them, you've been warmed.

Acorn Fuzzy Tex Slippers

Need a last minute comfort gift?  How about just some straight up comfort?  For You.  These fun fuzzy slipper socks from Acorn feel like heaven on tired feet, and they are warm.  There's memory foam padding on the inside for extra luxury and rubber soles so you can run out to the mailbox if you need to.  I love the gray, but they come in other colors and patterns as well.  These and some hot tea spell bliss to me and I think they are a wonderful gift, and a great last minute gift even online thanks to Zappos.  Find them on the Acorn site, Sundance (who has been offering promos), and Zappos (who can get them to you over night).

ACORN Vegan Slippers

Slipper weather is here.  As soon as temperatures drop, the slippers come out of the closets at our house.  It's a great way to keep that thermostat down, keep nasties out of the house that can make you sick, and  pamper your feet.  Acorn has some great vegan slipper options.  I love that there are color choices beyond pastel pink and blue.  So often with women's slippers we are stuck with the same colors over and over, but Acorn offers some rich darker colors including black.

The Nex Tex Clog is your basic clog slipper, a welcoming scuff for tired feet to slip into after a long day.  I love slides, they are so easy and you can just step right into them. These are my favorite slippers.  They have an outdoor-friendly sole so you can grab the mail and they're quite comfy.

Chinchilla Booties have a fun faux fur detail that butter soft.  The inside is lined with the faux chinchilla which feels crazy cozy on bare feet.  These also have the hard outsole if you need to step outside, and a soft footbed.  That fabric that comes up around your ankle really adds to the warmth.

For kids, the Spa Slipper is a great choice.  They're fuzzy and soft and have elastic at the ankles for a better fit.

All three slippers have a soft cushy memory foam midsole and EVA for added comfort, and they are machine washable as well for easy care.  I think slippers make a great holiday gift.  Find these and more fabulous slippers HERE on Acorn's site.

Acorn Eco Friendly Slippers

Need some slippers for the summer?  Acorn's Eco line of slippers feature hemp and organic cotton and aims to reduce our ecological footprint by utilizing natural, renewable, biodegradable and organic materials.

This Quilted Eco Slide slipper is soft and cozy and I love the plain simple style and neutral color.  So often women's slippers are pastel colors or loud pinks.  This is subtle and pleasing to the eye.  The Eco Slipper comes in a ballet, thong, and scuff style as well.  Find them HERE.

Acorn Slippers and the EARTHROAMER boot

Do you take your shoes off in the house?  I am more comfortable in socks or barefooted, but never thought too much of other people wearing shoes in my house.  Now that I know that pesticides and all sorts of nasties come in on the bottom of soles, having an impact on the health of people living in the house, I follow Japan's shoes off rule.  And now that I tend to spend a lot on socks, I really appreciate a good pair of slippers, even in warmer weather.

Acorn offers a ton of options including vegan and eco friendly slippers.  I tried these Earth Roamer slippers (shoes, actually, but I've been wearing them as house shoes) made with recycled PET, and they are warm and cozy and very supportive.  Warm house shoes are imperative for me to keep the thermostat turned down and for supporting my feet while spending hours in the kitchen on a hard floor.

Slippers make a thoughtful and practical gift and Acorn slippers are available online and locally at quality stores like REI.  Check them out HERE.
