21 Drops: Great Alternative to Perfume

If you are tempted to buy perfume for the holidays, remember that perfume contains carcinogens and irritants that can harm the wearer and people around them.  Personally, I despise the stuff and get an immediate migraine from being around it.  When someone goes to hug you and they are wearing perfume or cologne, you're stuck with that smell all day, and for people like me, we have to go and get a shower to escape the smell.  I could go on and on about how much I hate perfume, the chemical stuff.  And the more I talk openly about this, the more I realize I am not alone.
But I do like fragrance that comes from plants and flowers.  Essential oils are a different story.  They can be soothing, invigorating, and detoxifying.  They can create a mood, and they can lift a weary spirit.  21 Drops has some interesting formulas and fabulous packaging that would be great for gifts.  It's very modern, I love the colors and the the number graphics on the bottles.

The 21st Century Survival Kit provides aromatherapeutic support for life in our fast paced world which includes oils to Uplift, to help you Sleep and De-Stress.  It probably wouldn't be too hard to think of someone who could use this.  They use organic and wildcrafted essential oils, find them Here.

Should You Give Perfume for the Holidays?

That would be a resounding NO.  NO no no no a million times no.  There are a ton of celebrity perfumes out at the moment, all in pretty bottles and heavily marketed.  Why are these a terrible idea?  Because they contain carcinogens and harm the person wearing it and people around them.  In my opinion, fragrance is on par with cigarette smoke, even worse because it's harder to escape.

Commercial perfumes (not essential oils and fragrances that come from the actual plant) contain all sorts of toxic chemicals, including formaldehyde.  How sexy is that?  They routinely contain hormone disrupters and chemicals which trigger asthma and migraines.   But just because you may not seem to react to perfume by sneezing, wheezing, nausea, etc., that doesn't mean you aren't being affected.  Perfumes can be responsible for muscle and joint pain, difficulty concentrating, depression, immune disorders, learning disabilities, and other symptoms one might not associate with fragrance.

Fragrance lurks in laundry detergents, fabric softeners, soaps, etc., but for now let's just focus on the most obvious offender.  Have you ever shook someone's hand only to find that you can't get rid of their perfume or cologne smell?  Or sat next to someone on a plane only to have a migraine by the time you've reached your destination?  I believe if people knew how toxic and offensive most perfumes were, they'd at least switch to something more organic.  There are a few organic perfume companies out there that have lovely non toxic perfumes in pretty bottles, check out A PERFUME ORGANIC or MIESSENCE for some wonderful options.

A Perfume Organic

Most of my readers already know that most perfume is bad news.  I love fragrance--from the plant.  Essential oils can be very soothing, invigorating, and pleasing, evoking mood and atmosphere.  Synthetic perfumes and fragrance, on the other hand, send me right into migraineville and with good reason, they are comprised of dangerous chemicals.

A Perfume Organic is a healthy alternative.  It comes in a pretty bottle, is non toxic and smells great, I like the ylang ylang heavy Green.  There's no reason to buy toxic, carcinogenic perfumes when this is available.  Also--essential oils smell infinitely better than the toxic stuff.  A Perfume Organic is USDA certified organic, freshly hand made  and comes in a plantable eco friendly box.  Find it HERE.
